Lighthouse Restaurant & Cooking Classes Sold!

We - Linh & Hans - from the Lighthouse Restaurant & Cooking Classes have to inform you in this way that from the 17^th of January 2012 our business is closed. We are not related anymore with the name Lighthouse and the business related with this name.

Tripadvisor has the policy that if you stop your business for any reason it will be still listed for half a year on the Tripadvisors side suggesting it’s still there! This not only 'cheating' customers but also unnecessary letting businesses going down the ratings listing for no good reason!

We want to thank all our guests for the support making our Lighthouse business a success!

Linhand I want to thank all who have been visiting our business during the last 7and a half years.

Firstwe want to say thanks to Mrs. Thu Thuy who helped us so much in the starting upfaze of our Lighthouse.

Welike to thank tour leaders and tour guides who brought customers to ourbusiness for bicycle tours, cooking classes, lunches and dinners. Especially inthe first years we could not have survived without your support.

Wealso like to thank the 24 tour operators and agencies who have been bookingtours and cooking classes over the years.

Thanksto all the customers who have been visiting us, wrote reviews and advertised forus by mouth to mouth advertisement.

Alsothe writers and editors from guide books and magazines who promoted us in 7major guide books and wrote articles in magazines and news papers.

Thanksto all our friends in Vietnam,the Netherlandsand other countries for all the support over the years, the letters, the E-mailsand telephone calls in good and difficult times!

Thanksto Mr. Lung and his wife Mrs. Anh our direct neighbors. They have helped uswith the preparations of our bicycle tours, and gave an extra hand in thekitchen when busy. Mr. Lung thanks for hundreds of small repairs on everylevel!

Whatwould the Lighthouse have been without our staff. Thanks to them and speciallyto Mrs. Hong who have been with us for 7 years! Fantastic!

Specialthanks goes out to the mother of Linh, Mrs. Ly who have been supporting us on anybusiness and personal level over all these years. We could always count on hereven she had to come to Hoi An all the way from Saigon.

Alsomany thanks to Linh’s sister Mrs. Lien. Starting as a waitress and later mangershe also managed to finish her study economy on the university of Danang!

Butvery special thanks goes out to Linh my wife. Linh started alone in 2004 withthe Lighthouse while I was still doing tours. Far away from her home town Saigon in a new environment, a new house, new neighbors,new work! It was not easy! Linh was responsible for all market purchases,running the restaurant leading the kitchen staff and organizing, carrying outmarket tours and cooking classes and coping with her Dutch husband. Anenormous achievement! Thank you so much!

“Great Place .........”

The Good News is that the Lighthouse was wonderful.

The Bad News is that it is now closed.

Hans has advised me by email that he and Linh closed the Restaurant at the end of January 2012 but regret that it may be a few months before TripAdvisor removes The Lighthouse from the Hoi An listings.

We had this place to ourselves and it was a fabulous lunch, brillant table with views over Hoi an. Grab a taxi to get there though it's a little hard to find.

“Not the most famous, just the best”

The Lighthouse Restaurant certainly isn't the most famous eatery in Hoi An. Most tourists don't even know it exists, since it's on Cam Nam Island, across the river and through Cam Nam village, opposite Hoi An proper. But don't be afraid of the walk, or the fact that it isn't all that well sign-posted. The food here has to be some of the best in Hoi An.

Linh is a wonderful cook, and an even more joyful person, and you're definitely in for a treat no matter what you order from the menu. Definitely try her fried wontons, and then order some elsewhere in town just to see both how good her's are, and how expensive the others are by comparison.

You will not be disappointed by your experience!

We had a wonderful evening meal here on a balcony overlooking the river - try the squid stuffed with pork ..... a gourmet dish. The Dutch husband and Vietnamese wife team that own and run the restaurant are delightful people to talk to and learn about the real Vietnam. Incidentally, she runs an excellent Vietnamese cuisine cooking class (and on departure, after your self-prepared multi-course lunch, gives you the recipes you used).

“Sadly closing 17th January :(”

We loved this place on our last trip and returned today, but sadly for the last time - in the front of the menu is a note saying it has been sold and closes January 17th, and the owner confirmed it. The stuffed squid was still delicious and voted by my partner as the best in Hoi An - and he has tried it at nearly every place we have been to! Apparently there are not as many Western tourists now as there was previously and the owners are going in to another business (not a restaurant). We are sorry to see them go!

In the Lonely Planet we saw Lighthouse restaurant and cooking course, run by a Dutch/Vietnamese couple. Always nice as I'm Dutch myself. Very friendly staff and very good food. Make reservations for the evenings and sit outside and enjoy the barbeque. Also great indigenous dishes cooked superbly by Linh who runs this great restaurant with her Dutch husband Hans.More
